Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation Announces "Pink Aid Breast Fit Program"

Posted on 5/10/2018

The Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation is the proud recipient of a grant of $14,400 from the non-profit organization Pink Aid. Pink Aid’s mission is to help underserved local women survive breast cancer treatment with support and dignity, to provide screening to women in financial need, and to empower breast cancer survivors to heal by helping and inspiring others.

This grant will specifically fund the “Pink Aid Breast Fit Program.” This program will provide free screening and diagnostic mammography for uninsured and underserved patients who reside locally on the North Fork and Shelter Island.

The need for breast health services in the local community is substantial, and this is just one step that the ELIH Foundation has taken to address this need. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the ELIH Foundation recently expanded and renovated the hospital’s Breast Health Center, adding 3D mammography capability. Also known as Digital Tomosynthesis, this state-of-the-art imaging system sets new screening standards in the fight against breast cancer. 3D mammography is especially beneficial for routine screenings for patients with dense breast tissue or a history of breast cancer, reducing false positives and increasing cancer detection by 41%.
